Day 15 In Him we find...

via

Have you ever seen the movie Bruce Almighty? Well, if you haven't, it's basically about a guy who complains about how God is running the world. In return, God gives Bruce all of His power to run the world to show that Bruce could not handle the responsibility, even for a week. Obviously, this movie would be categorized as a comedic fantasy. I'm not sure if you've ever fantasized about being God, but I sure I haven't. I know for a fact, that there is no way that it could work. I mean come on, it's God we're talking about. THE man who breathed life into dust. Yeah I definitely could not do that. Not to mention, I would not be able to create the universe. I can't even fathom how He did that. I had enough trouble with my 4th grade solar system project. Walking on water, turning water into wine, you name all the miraculous things and I canNOT do it.

Sometimes I think we try to be God (and we fail miserably, of course). We try to take matters into our own hands, forgetting that it's God who holds the power...not us. That is what's different between us and God...He is almighty. That's why God is God and we're not. Psalm 62:11 (NASB) says, "Once God has spoken; Twice I have heard this; That power belongs to God;" We may think we have it under control, but He is the one who has it under control. He can use His power in us, but He is always the source of the power. He says, "I have the power to save. I have the power to heal. I have the power to protect. I have the power to discipline..." and the list continues. Don't ever doubt God's power in your life.

In Him we find power.

Today's scripture is John 13-15.

  1. I've thought of that movie, Bruce Almighty, frequently lately. Although I am not desiring to be God, I feel like He is giving more to do for him...more people to encourage, pray for, etc. I think of that scene when Bruce is checking his email, and the requests just keep coming. Sometimes being a servant of God is overwhelming. But, rewarding. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

  2. That is one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies. I think it was pretty well-done and they handled the subject matter in a decent way. Especially at the point where he surrenders to God's will and admits that he can't do everything.
