Slip on by...

Well, I don't have much to say today, so it's going to be a short one (for once, huh? lol). I've kinda been in a quiet, blah mood, and I've been working on a project. I wish I could tell you about it, but the recipient of this gift is probably going to read this, so I better not. I'll tell you about it later though! Anyway, something stood out to me today. It's a song that I've never heard before called, "Slip On By", sung by Finding Favour.

"Early morning by the riverside,
Saw an old man waiting for a bite.
We started talking and he took me back in time.
He said "I was young, and thought I'd always be,
Then I woke up, now I'm 83.
There's so much I missed, oh how I wish
I could get back all that time I wasted."
I see the tears of a young bride, the morning that we had our first fight.
I should've held her tight.
And on the day that my momma died, I hung up the phone and never said goodbye.
Don't let it slip on, don't let it slip on, don't let it slip on by.
Well he looked up, tears in his eyes,
Said "I'm not sure, if you were lookin' for advice.
There's just something about you that reminds me of me.
It ain't easy always lookin' back but it seems these days that it's all I have.
What hurts me the most, is knowin' what could have been, and if I listen real close,
sometimes I can...
Hear the sound of my little boy sayin', "Daddy can you come play with me"
But I was too busy.
Then one day, my baby grew up and went to war.
I never thought he’d be gone in the blink of an eye.
So don't let it slip on, don't let it slip on, don't let it slip on by.
I shook the old man's hand and I thanked him.
And I drove home as fast as I could go, just to let her know
That I need her, that I love her,
That I'm never gonna let another moment like this slip on by.
Don’t let it slip on by.
We’re only here for a little while
And God gives us only so much precious time
So don't let it slip on, don't let it slip on, don't let it slip on by.
Don’t let it slip on by."

What lyrics stand out to you in this song?

The lyrics, "We're only here for a little while and God gives us only so much precious time", really stand out me, because it is so true. It's important to figure out what you value most in life like family and don't let precious moments "slip on by".

These are just a few precious moments I'll never forget...

Ice skating with my nieces

Casting Crowns concert with sis & mom

Being a bridesmaid with my best friend for my other best friend's wedding

Hanging out with a dolphin...nuff said :)

Snow in TX with my high school friends

PS- If you are following along with the read-your-Bible-in-a-year plan, today's scripture is Matthew 22 & 23.

  3. Dawn- thanks for stopping by and saying hi! Well, I've had all sorts of symptoms for about 9 years but was just diagnosed almost a year ago. Went to tonssss of doctors, had many misdiagnoses, and then I stumbled upon a new doctor that knew about Lyme and severity of it. She tested me and sure enough, I have Lyme! Now I've been on treatment for about 10 months. Definitely a long journey, but I'm starting to see the light :) I love your 31 Day series...keep it up! Be blessed :)

    1. By the way- you Sarah Young has been through a bad time with treatment and sickness from Lymes. In her book Jesus Today she tells of the journey in the intro. I knew she was ill as I asked to interview her-and the publisher said she was ill and unable to do much more than what she was doing at the time! A free sample is available for free on the Jesus Calling Facebook Page- she writes about her battle with Lymes in the intro. Blessings back sweet girl!

  5. Heard this song several times on the local Christian radio station, but never till today did the lyrics stand out to me. To the point tears just ran down my face. I am pregnant with a son and this specific line stood out to me most: sometimes I can...

I wanted to find the lyrics for the entire song, and came across your blog.

    God Bless!
